Outstanding. I've had steak and Pulled Pork here and both were some of the best I've had. The sides are also very good. Servuce is good but not great. It is pricey but worth it.

I am not and have never been a fan of the Blue Pelican at either location. Food is mediocre and very over-priced.... I've tried it all and never loved let alone liked anything..... WAY overrated.

Did the double hog dare you for $10 bbq, it was excellent, salad good, but small, bacon not "fully" cooked on the cluck norris, ground chuck burger, very good. Prices reasonable, ambience, classic northern mi restaurant setting, would do it again

Atmosphere was great - up north casual. Musician was pleasant, not overwhelming. Crab cakes and crab stuffed walleye were steady good and the ahi appetizer was absolutely delicious. Portion sizes were also great for the prices. We - 2 adults with a cocktail & appetizer each and one kid with an app and kids mea - ate for just over $100 and were all pleasantly satisfied. Service was pleasant but just a little slow on a Saturday night with about 75% full dining room. This is truly "kid friendly" as my five year old didn't get bored (six or seven typical choices for kids who eat off the kids menu) and she didn't have to stay super quiet in order to let others enjoy their meals because there was a lot of laughter & families around. We'll be back. It's nice to have a place for family night where kids are happy and adults get "real food" too!

My fist visit to Torch Lake and we took a golf cart ride to The Blue Pelican for dinner outside. We had fried pickles for an app, and white fish for dinner. Was really good. Nice, quiet, dinner. I'd go back!

Wow! I thought I missed the former Chef, but this one is magnificent. Marvelous fish special was outstanding! White fish, crab cake, shrimp, halibut, and grits truly wonderful. Chef will add at least a star to this local landmark. Oh, the waitress was a Great. And and the desserts were really special. We'll be back soon?

Don't get the steak. I ordered it medium rare and it came closer to well. I sent it back and got a steak that was beyond rare and not edible. Waitress was very nice but manager is very rude.

Went with grandchildren on a Tuesday: Two for Two. Outside seating, music nice touch, free to run around. Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Pulled Pork & Chips for 5$. Nice deal, but the quality of food was not top shelf quality! It seemed to sit hard in the adult stomach !!!

Yeah. Tonight I went there for Father's Day. I ordered pork ribs. Waitress said .. oh yes they are a favorite here. Well, I cannot imagine why that might be. The meat (pork) was pink but the outside of the ribs was so blackened (not mentioned) that I couldn't chew the meat. I tried to peel off the 'skin' but all that was left was ugly and tiny bits of pink meat. It was actually disgusting. I almost vomited. Absolutely the WORST ribs I have ever been served. Whipped potatoes with wasabi... no.. the flavor doesn't work. The asparagus was okay but nothing great. The bread, however, was warm and yummy. My husband order the pork something or other... and he brought about two thirds of it home for our dog. He hated the sweet potatoes and the rice pilaf which he said was absolutely tasteless. We are NEVER going back there to eat... EVER! The waitress did comp my meal though so I felt somewhat better.. but hungry. I do not recommend this place at all. This is about the 5th time we have tried one of the Blue Pelican restaurants in the area and each time, we have had a bad food experience. They need a really good chef... I mean a good one who knows how to cook and combine foods.

This is the first time I've been here since they moved to the new location. Nice menu selections with foods popular in the area. Pleasant outdoor seating if desired on the grand porch. My initial optimism was jarred though when the waitress informed us that they had ran out of snapper for one of the specials and were substituting the same preparation with escolar fish. If your not familiar with escolar, I'll let you do your own research. Other than that, my wife and I shared the crab stuffed walleye. The stuffing was a bit bready but really a nice dish overall. My daughter had the chicken parmesan that also was nice. Overall a pleasant experience. I would eat here again if in the area, but nothing to go our of your way for, just stay away from the escolar.

My family and I really like the blue pelican. I really dig their fresh perch and my brother always orders crab legs on his birthday. My mom sticks to the burgers and has really never looked back! They carry the local beers (like the ones from shorts) and really celebrate the "up north" culture.

Great food! If you enjoy King crab legs, this is the place for you. A bit pricey but worth it. For gourmet burgers and other delicious items, try their new sports bar - the Pelican's Nest at the Chief golf course (near Shanty Creek Resorts).

Had dinner there this evening and, at best, it was mediocre. Have eaten there several times in the past and it was just not the same. Really disappointed to spend that much money and have such a marginal meal. My wife felt the same. Not likely to return. Sadly, just not the same quality place for a nice dinner.

This restaurant is a gem. The food, wine selection, courteous nature of the staff, everything was just as I had hoped. Only complaint was that the portions of the superb pork shoulder were too big! Try the fried shrimp appetizer. Omg! Seriously folks, if you are in the area, avoid shanty creek and come to this fine establishment. It's food and hospitality rival that found in more cosmopolitan areas. And for reasonable prices considering what you get. Bravo guys!

My grand parents used to own this but sold it back in 1986. Its similar but a few things have changed. On Tuesdays they have outside seating where they serve bbq ($3)with drinks($2). All in all a good place, although the inside dining menu seemed a little pricey.

Came here with a large group and they were very accomodating. Large menu with a lot to choose from. The whitefish was fantastic and all the portions were large. The service was attentive and fast. We would put this on our list of Up North keepers.

The Blue Pelican used to be on E. Torch Lake road but burned down and has now relocated to the old Lamplighter Inn in Central Lake. I was excited to try the Blue Pelican in its new location because when I was little we used to go to the Lamplighter (which used to have pizza and a jukebox in the basement) and I had very fond memories there...So my review-Everyone was friendly from the moment we walked in, we had a reservation but came a little early because we were starving and they got us right in (we were a party of six). We ordered the clam corn chowder first...it was good my only complaint is it was warm not hot. For an appetizer my husband and I ordered a firecracker crab cake (which is a slightly spicier version of the regular crabcake), the crab cake was fine but the Mango salsa/relish that came with it was AWESOME and I am not even a mango fan!! I wished we would have had a little more on the plate. My mom and dad split the pulled pork quesadilla and thought it was good and a pleasant change from chicken quesadilla. My husband and I split a half rack of ribs and they give you the option of dried rub or bbq sauce....we could not agree so they gave us dry rub ribs with the cherry bbq sauce of the side. The ribs were fine-I thought they were a little dry but my husband really like them. I on the other hand LOVED the cherry bbq sauce and used them for a dipping sauce for my ribs AND fries. The only downer to our meal was they did not bring the coleslaw with the ribs and by the time we said something it was too late and we just cancelled it. My kids meals were fine, one ordered mac and cheese (but didn't love the glop of cheese melted on top of it) the other ordered buttered noodles with cheese. We did not order dessert because we had 3 pies at home waiting for us but there dessert tray looked fabulous (especially the chocolate panna cotta). The service was friendly a few minor glitches-never bringing the fresh bread basket (after telling us they were just waiting for it to come out of the oven) and not bringing the cole slaw. All in all it was a good meal and we would go back. When leaving we noticed they had outside seating on the porch with entertainment...if we had noticed this earlier I would have definitely asked to sit outside.

This restaurant moved to the former Lamplighter (Blue Pelican used to be on Torch Lake). The menu is expanded and the food is deliciuous. I had pulled pork in a cherry BBQ sauce that was so yummy I can't wait to eat my leftovers today -- the portions are LARGE. They also served wonderful corn bread muffins and one of the 4 of us at our table had their roll and said it was delicous. The service was a little slow but we've learned that out of season it's alot harder to have enough help to make everything go smoothly and quickly. And, even witht he slower swervice, we were all very happy we came.
